Devendra Fadnavis to become CM
BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has been confirmed as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra. On Wednesday, Fadnavis was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party. Additionally, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar have been finalized for the roles of Deputy Chief Ministers.

Following this decision, Devendra Fadnavis, along with supporting MLAs, will meet the Governor of Maharashtra to stake a claim for forming the government. Leaders of the Mahayuti alliance are scheduled to visit Raj Bhavan at 3:30 PM. The swearing-in ceremony is planned for December 5 at Azad Maidan, with several senior BJP leaders expected to attend.
Devendra Fadnavis to become CM
Given the BJP’s significant victory in the assembly elections, it was anticipated that the next Chief Minister would be from the party. Fadnavis, elected from the Nagpur South West constituency, has previously served as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. In 2019, he assumed the CM’s office but had to resign after just a few days. Fadnavis also held the Deputy CM position in the Eknath Shinde-led government.
BJP’s Exceptional Performance Under Fadnavis’ Leadership
The Maharashtra assembly election results were striking. The Mahayuti alliance not only returned to power but also secured 230 seats in the 288-member assembly. The opposition, Maha Vikas Aghadi, was reduced to fewer than 50 seats. BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 57 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP secured 41. The BJP also gained the support of five independent MLAs.
Disappointing Results for Maha Vikas Aghadi
On the other hand, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance delivered a dismal performance. Despite bold claims during the election campaign, the Congress won only 16 seats, Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP alliance managed 10, and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena secured 20.
