Congress leaders working secretly
In a fiery address to Congress workers in Ahmedabad, MP Rahul Gandhi didn’t hold back, accusing some leaders in the party’s Gujarat unit of secretly working for the BJP. His message was clear: either shape up or ship out. Gandhi said the Congress is ready to axe up to 40 leaders if that’s what it takes to clean house in the BJP-ruled state, where the party has been out of power for nearly 30 years.

“If some Congress leaders are secretly working for the BJP, they should come out and do it openly,” Gandhi declared. “The BJP won’t have space for you. They’ll throw you out.”

He also highlighted a divide within the party — between leaders genuinely connected to the people and those who remain distant. “To connect with the people of Gujarat, we need to separate these two groups. Even if it means removing 10, 20, or even 40 people, we’re ready to set an example,” Gandhi asserted.

His remarks seemed to energize party members, including Congress veteran Ahmed Patel’s daughter, Mumtaz Patel, who said Gandhi’s speech gave her the “courage to speak openly.” She expressed frustration over being sidelined despite wanting to work for the party.

Meanwhile, the BJP was quick to pounce. Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla called Gandhi the “BJP‘s biggest asset,” accusing him of trolling his own party. In a sarcastic swipe, Poonawalla mocked Gandhi’s analogy comparing Congress workers to racehorses and wedding horses, urging him to “at least call your party workers humans.”

Gandhi acknowledged the challenges Congress faces in Gujarat, emphasizing that winning elections isn’t enough — the party must first “earn the trust” of the people. With battle lines clearly drawn and a no-nonsense approach to internal dissent, Gandhi’s speech has sparked a political storm in Gujarat.
