Midnight Drama in UP Village
In a scene straight out of a thriller, residents of a quiet village in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district were shaken awake by a most unexpected visitor- a crocodile creeping through a home in the dead of night.
The reptile, likely in search of food or warmth, slithered its way into a house, startling a man from his sleep. Startled but quick-thinking, the man raised an alarm that echoed through the village. What followed was a blend of chaos, courage, and coordination.

A young villager stepped up as the unlikely hero of the night. With help from others, he managed to rope in the crocodile quite literally. Video footage obtained by NDTV shows the tense rescue, with the reptile being dragged from what appeared to be a basement, fighting every inch of the way. Despite its fierce resistance, the villagers held their ground and handed the crocodile over safely to the forest department. Miraculously, no one was injured.
Experts believe the crocodile came from Darjaniya Tal, a nearby lake known for its thriving population of over 400 crocodiles. During winter, these massive reptiles often bask on the sun-warmed hillsides, drawing both admiration and unease from locals and tourists alike.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Uttar Pradesh villagers have come face-to-snout with a crocodile. Just last year in Bijnor’s Nangal Soti village, a large crocodile was spotted taking a leisurely stroll through the streets. Startled early-morning residents scrambled for safety- some fleeing, others filming. One video even captured a man boldly kicking the reptile, while a local street dog took it upon itself to chase the intruder.

That day too ended without injuries, as the forest department eventually managed to capture and relocate the wandering reptile.
