In a high-stakes security huddle on Friday morning, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened an emergency meeting with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This came just hours after India successfully neutralized a barrage of missile and drone strikes launched by Pakistan in a dramatic overnight escalation.

The strikes targeting Indian military stations and civilian areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu, and Kashmir began around 8:30 PM on Thursday night. Pakistani forces deployed drones and heavy artillery along the Line of Control (LoC), triggering widespread blackouts across Srinagar, Jammu, and multiple locations in northern India.

But India struck back swiftly and decisively.

Under the banner of Operation Sindoor, Indian forces launched precision counterstrikes that reportedly obliterated several Pakistani military posts. Anti-tank guided missiles were used with deadly accuracy to neutralize enemy positions, according to defence sources.

The Indian Army confirmed that the drone assault and multiple ceasefire violations (CFVs) by Pakistan were “effectively repulsed,” adding that a “befitting reply” was delivered in return.

“Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded to with force,” the official statement said.

The recent hostilities trace back to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. In a dramatic retaliatory move last week, India unleashed 24 missile strikes in just 25 minutes across nine strategic locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The highly-coordinated operation killed 70 terrorists and injured at least 60 more, in what officials described as a “precision military response designed to evade detection and maximise impact.”

In retaliation, Pakistan resorted to what officials described as “arbitrary and indiscriminate firing,” killing 16 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.

As tensions flare across the western front, India’s military remains on high alert, signaling that any further provocation will be met with uncompromising force.
