A shocking incident shook Bhankrota on Saturday night as a 24-year-old man allegedly ended his life by setting himself on fire and jumping from the terrace of his ninth-floor apartment. The man, identified as Aditya Sharma, died on the spot after sustaining severe burns and fatal injuries from the fall.

Aditya, who lived with his parents and younger brother, returned to his apartment around 7:45 p.m. after finishing work at a private firm in Bagru. Not long after, his younger brother stepped out, leaving Aditya alone with his father.

According to police, the horrifying act took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. Investigators believe Aditya siphoned petrol from the family vehicle, went to the building’s terrace, doused himself in it, and lit himself on fire before leaping from the top floor. Horrified locals who witnessed the incident called the police immediately.

Bhankrota SHO Manish Gupta stated that officers rushed to the scene, accompanied by Aditya’s father. The father reportedly identified his son’s charred body lying near the building, bloodied and severely burnt. Despite efforts to save him, Aditya was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. A postmortem was conducted, and his body has since been handed over to the grieving family.

While no suicide note was found, investigators are exploring a possible link to cryptocurrency-related fraud. “We’ve received inputs suggesting the deceased may have been a victim of a crypto scam. This angle is being thoroughly examined,” SHO Gupta said.
