The attack, which targeted mostly tourists in the scenic Baisaran meadow, a popular destination in the valley has sent shockwaves across the nation and drawn global concern.

During the call, President Putin conveyed his heartfelt condolences for the innocent victims and expressed unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism. He stressed that those responsible for the “heinous attack” must be swiftly brought to justice, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

“The perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice,” Jaiswal quoted Putin as saying in a post on social media platform X. The statement comes at a sensitive time, as tensions between India and Pakistan intensify following the deadly assault.

But the conversation wasn’t solely about tragedy. PM Modi and President Putin also used the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to deepening the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Modi extended warm greetings to Putin ahead of Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations on May 9 and invited him to India for the upcoming Annual Summit later this year.

Despite the invitation, there are indications that PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh might skip the Victory Day parade in Moscow, citing the delicate regional situation and escalating strain with Pakistan, according to a PTI report.
