In a rapidly escalating border crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level emergency meeting on Thursday with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to oversee the evacuation of civilians from vulnerable villages along the Line of Control (LoC). The move comes in the wake of relentless and unprovoked shelling by Pakistani forces, leaving behind a trail of destruction and fear.

Eyewitnesses described a night of terror. “The shelling started around 2 AM and didn’t stop until noon. It was like a war zone,” one villager told NDTV. While some families fled to safer locations such as Baramullah, others were trapped in their homes, too afraid to move.

“There were so many explosions deafening. People are terrified. But where can we go? We have nothing,” another local added, voicing the desperation of many.

This surge in hostilities follows India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, a diplomatic retaliation for the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a coordinated offensive targeting nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
