Renowned comedian and actor Vir Das has once again voiced his concerns about Mumbai’s worsening air pollution. In a recent social media post, he compared breathing in the city to smoking a cigarette.

Taking to Instagram, Vir humorously remarked, “I’ll smoke a cigarette socially maybe fifteen days a year. The remaining days I’m a breathing Mumbaikar. Same taste. Today Mumbai was a Marlboro Light.”

This isn’t the first time the comedian has highlighted air quality issues. Last month, he penned a detailed note on Instagram, emphasizing the need for urgent action. He warned that unless drastic measures are taken, every government’s legacy will be defined by the pollution they allowed citizens to endure. “This issue will probably be taken seriously only when we see its long-term effects on the younger and older generations. Right now, it feels like new pollution, doesn’t it? And if we think it’s unrealistic, they’d let us live like this for a decade.”

Calling for significant policy changes, Vir acknowledged that such decisions might initially be unpopular but would ultimately prove beneficial. He wrote, “We complained when new airports and bridges were built, but in the end, they were worth it. Right now, it’s 7:30 a.m., and the AQI is 170. Children are going to school, and elderly people are out for walks. Air isn’t political, it doesn’t care about your income, religion, or patriotism. If there’s one thing worth fixing, it’s the air.”
