In a significant diplomatic and security development, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in New Delhi on Sunday. The two top officials engaged in a high-level discussion focused on bolstering intelligence-sharing and deepening Indo-US security cooperation.

Gabbard, who is on a multi-nation tour covering Japan, Thailand, and France, arrived in India for a two-and-a-half-day visit—her first high-profile trip to the country since assuming office in the Donald Trump administration. Their meeting was described as a “good discussion” by sources, with key topics including terrorism, emerging security threats, and strategic collaboration.

Global Intelligence Chiefs Gather in Delhi

Adding to the high-stakes atmosphere, top intelligence czars from around the world convened in New Delhi for an exclusive security conclave, chaired by Doval. Behind closed doors, intelligence chiefs from countries including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and New Zealand exchanged crucial insights on global security challenges.

The discussions reportedly revolved around terrorism, cybersecurity threats, security in the Indo-Pacific region, terror financing, and extradition issues. India’s concerns over anti-India elements operating abroad, including pro-Khalistan groups, were also on the table.

India-Canada Relations Under the Spotlight

The presence of Canadian intelligence chief Daniel Rogers at the summit was particularly noteworthy, given the ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada over the Hardeep Singh Nijjar case. Ties between the two nations have been frosty since former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being linked to Nijjar’s killing in September 2023—allegations that New Delhi dismissed as “absurd.”

With relations further deteriorating after a diplomatic tit-for-tat, it is expected that Doval and Rogers might have addressed these tensions during their interactions.

Gabbard to Address Raisina Dialogue

As part of her India visit, Tulsi Gabbard is also set to address the prestigious Raisina Dialogue on Tuesday, where she is expected to outline the US’s strategic vision for global security. This marks her second international visit after attending the Munich Security Conference in Germany last month.

With security concerns ranging from the Russia-Ukraine war to conflicts in the Middle East, this conclave has reaffirmed India’s growing role in shaping global intelligence and security cooperation.
