Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi claimed on Thursday that within just three days of AAP losing power, the city has been experiencing power cuts. However, the BJP dismissed these allegations as baseless.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva refuted Atishi’s claims, stating that there are no power outages in the city. He challenged her to specify the affected areas instead of making unsubstantiated statements. Furthermore, he warned power distribution companies (discoms) against cooperating with the acting chief minister in enforcing power cuts or delaying repairs, cautioning that they could face an investigation once the new government takes charge.

Atishi alleged that the BJP intends to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, a state known for prolonged power outages. Addressing a press conference, she claimed that over 40 power cuts had been reported across the city in just three days since AAP’s departure, forcing residents to purchase inverters.

She asserted that under AAP’s governance, the power sector was closely monitored, but it had started to collapse with the BJP coming to power. She further accused the BJP of lacking governance skills and warned that Delhi could soon face extended power outages like those in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP secured a decisive victory in the February 5 elections, reclaiming power in Delhi after 26 years by winning 48 out of 70 Assembly seats. However, the party has yet to form the government.

Sachdeva accused Atishi and other AAP leaders of spreading “falsehoods and confusion” about power cuts. He claimed that for years, the AAP government, in collusion with private power discoms, had been exploiting the people. He further alleged that with the BJP set to take over, Atishi was resorting to fear-mongering and conspiracies.

Denying reports of power outages, Sachdeva insisted that the acting chief minister and power discoms were deliberately delaying repairs to create an illusion of crisis.
