Hyderabad witnessed a chilling act of violence on Tuesday morning when senior CPI leader K Chandu Naik, popularly known as Chandu Rathod, was gunned down during his routine walk at Shalivahana Nagar Park in Malakpet.

The incident occurred around 7:30 am, turning a peaceful morning into a crime scene. According to DCP (South East Zone) S Chaitanya Kumar, a group of three to four unidentified assailants arrived in a white Swift car. In a shocking tactic, they hurled chilli powder into Rathod’s face, momentarily blinding him. As he tried to escape, they opened fire, killing him on the spot. The attackers then fled in the same vehicle, vanishing before anyone could react.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible link to a longstanding feud with a CPI (ML) leader from Devarpula, according to Rathod’s family. His body was later shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, launching a manhunt for the killers.

Reacting to the incident, CPI National Leader K Narayana stated, “He was facing threats from certain individuals. Though he had previously been involved in a murder case, this killing seems to stem from personal enmity rather than political rivalry. We are still gathering the facts.”
