President Droupadi Murmu on Monday immersed herself in devotion as she took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam during the grand Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Draped in a serene white saree, the President stood in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, offering prayers with deep reverence.

Following the dip, she participated in the Ganga Aarti and performed pooja, embracing the spiritual essence of the world’s largest religious congregation. Accompanying her were Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also paid their respects at the Sangam.

A Historic Tradition of Devotion

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, has already witnessed a staggering 40 crore devotees taking a dip in the holy waters. This grand spectacle, held every 12 years, will conclude on February 26, marking Mahashivratri.

Interestingly, President Murmu is not the first head of state to participate in this sacred tradition. India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, also took a holy dip during a previous Maha Kumbh, emphasizing the event’s deep-rooted historical and spiritual significance.

PM Modi and Other Dignitaries at Maha Kumbh

Just last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the Maha Kumbh, performing rituals at the Sangam. Holding sacred rudraksha beads, the Prime Minister chanted mantras and expressed his spiritual experience on X (formerly Twitter):

The fair has seen an extraordinary turnout, with January 29 (Mauni Amavasya) recording the highest footfall so far—8 crore devotees took the sacred plunge on this day.
