A commotion broke out during Kanhaiya Kumar’s foot march in Patna, the capital of Bihar. Congress workers were holding a march to raise issues of migration and unemployment in the state. They were on their way to gherao (encircle) the Chief Minister’s residence when the police intervened. Several Congress workers, including NSUI National In-Charge Kanhaiya Kumar, were taken into custody by the police. The march was stopped at Rajpur Bridge, although several workers remained stationed there in protest.

Kanhaiya Kumar has been leading the ‘Stop Migration – Provide Jobs’ yatra (journey) for the past 26 days, traveling across different districts of Bihar along with fellow Congress workers. Today, the march reached Patna. As the participants moved towards CM Nitish Kumar’s residence, they were halted by the police at Rajpur Bridge, leading to clashes and chaos between the police and the marchers.

Prominent Congress leaders have been joining Kanhaiya Kumar’s yatra every day. A few days ago, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi participated in the march at Begusarai. Today, in Patna, Congress leader Sachin Pilot joined the march. The intervention by the police led to disruptions, resulting in the detention of several workers.

On Thursday, Kanhaiya Kumar had posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) announcing that the ‘Stop Migration – Provide Jobs’ yatra would proceed as scheduled from Patna Sahib. He appealed to the people of Bihar to join him in Patna for employment and rights, urging everyone to unite and build a new Bihar.

Migration – A Key Electoral Issue in Bihar

Migration remains a significant issue in Bihar and is frequently raised during elections. Keeping the upcoming elections in mind, Rahul Gandhi has also been vocal about this concern. Over the past two months, Gandhi has visited Bihar three times, most recently on April 7. With elections expected within the next 4–5 months, senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot are hitting the ground to connect with the youth in hopes of gaining electoral advantage.
