The Painting That Spoke the Truth

The little girl, unaware of the gravity of the situation, innocently drew a picture on plain paper that depicted her father brutally beating her mother before hanging her. She told the police, “Papa often used to beat Mama. One day, he even pushed her down the stairs.” The child further revealed, “Papa first hit Mama, then told her, ‘If you want to die, do it yourself.’ And then, he hanged her, stuffed her in a sack, and threw her away before leaving with his friends.”

Greed for Dowry Led to Tragedy

Sonali’s father, Sanjeev Tripathi, a resident of Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, shared a heartbreaking account of his daughter’s suffering. “At the time of marriage, I gave them ₹20 lakh in cash as dowry, but soon after, they started demanding a car. I told them I couldn’t afford it, and that’s when they began torturing my daughter,” he said. He had even approached the police earlier, but the matter was settled through compromise.

Brutality Fuelled by Alcohol

According to Sonali’s father, her husband and in-laws frequently assaulted her, especially when drunk. “Her husband, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law would beat her up. One morning at 7 AM, we received a call saying she was unwell, and within minutes, they informed us that she had hanged herself,” he recalled with a heavy heart.
