26 killed in Pahalgam attack
In a heartfelt and resolute response to one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama 2019, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the grief-stricken survivors and families of the victims in Srinagar on Wednesday. The nation is still reeling from the shock of the Pahalgam attack, which left at least 26 civilians — most of them tourists — dead after a brutal ambush at the scenic, remote meadow of Baisaran.

His visit to Srinagar came just hours after the attack. There, he was briefed by Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, and later chaired a high-level security review meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in attendance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “heinous act” and promising that “those behind it will not be spared.” Demonstrating the gravity of the situation, PM Modi cut short his diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to India early on Wednesday. Upon arrival, he convened an emergency meeting with NSA Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and top security officials to assess the response and next steps.

“Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and will only grow stronger,” the Prime Minister said in a determined post on X.
As India mourns yet another tragedy in the Valley, both Shah and Modi have vowed to transform that grief into unwavering resolve — to not only bring justice to the victims but also crush the roots of terrorism that threaten the nation’s peace.
