Haryana IPS Officer Smiti Chaudhary Dies
In a tragic loss to the civil services fraternity, Haryana-cadre IPS officer Smiti Chaudhary, 48, passed away on Friday in Nashik after a prolonged battle with illness. A 2012-batch officer known for her dedication and integrity, Chaudhary had been serving as Superintendent of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), before going on extended medical leave.

Hailing from a family deeply rooted in public service, Chaudhary was the daughter of former Haryana IAS officer Jaiwanti Sheokand. Her brother, Yashendra Singh, is a serving IAS officer in Haryana. She was married to Maharashtra-cadre IPS officer Rajesh Kumar, who currently serves as Director of the Maharashtra Police Academy in Nashik.

Beginning her distinguished career as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 2004, Chaudhary held several crucial postings during her tenure. She served as DSP Panchkula and later took on important responsibilities as Superintendent of Police with the Lokayukta, the State Vigilance Bureau, and in Dadri. In September 2023, she was appointed SP of the ACB.

Her untimely passing has left a deep void in the police service and among her loved ones. Former Hisar MP Brijendra Singh, mourning her demise, posted on social media platform X:
“I’m deeply saddened by the untimely demise of a member of our paternal family, Haryana IPS officer Smiti Chaudhary. Such an untimely departure of a young officer is a profound loss to the family, friends, and the civil services fraternity. May her soul rest in peace.”
