Inaugurating a series of developmental works at the Janata Flats area, CM Gupta, accompanied by Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, unveiled the government’s plan to shift overhead electrical and communication cables underground. This initiative, she emphasized, is a significant step toward modernizing the city’s infrastructure and enhancing safety in congested residential areas.

“This is just the beginning,” said CM Gupta. “We envision a Delhi where not a single wire will be visible. We’ve all looked up and wondered why our skies are so cluttered. Now, people will be able to see the blue sky again, this is a gift for Delhi.”

Highlighting the hazards of overhead wiring from fire risks to obstructed pathways, Gupta explained that the narrow lanes of areas like Shalimar Bagh are especially vulnerable. “These streets are so tight that two scooters can’t pass side by side. Tangled wires make things even worse. This project is a solution we’ve long needed,” she added.

The government has already allocated ₹100 crore for the initiative in the city’s budget, underlining its commitment to this urban overhaul.
Minister Ashish Sood echoed the CM’s sentiments, saying the Delhi government is determined to strengthen the city’s power infrastructure. “Earlier, there were no capital funds earmarked for such development. Now, under CM Gupta’s leadership, we’re fixing that. Our goal is clear a safer, wire-free Delhi,” Sood said.

Tackling Another Urban Challenge: Waterlogging
Apart from unveiling the underground wiring initiative, CM Gupta also addressed another persistent problem and that is waterlogging during monsoons. Following Thursday’s heavy rainfall, which submerged several parts of Delhi, the Chief Minister expressed concern and held an emergency meeting with senior officials from PWD, irrigation, flood control, and other civic agencies.

“While we’ve made progress there was no waterlogging at key junctions like Minto Road and ITO this efficiency must be replicated across the city,” she asserted.
Gupta issued stern instructions to all departments: inspect and clear roadside drains regularly, stay alert during rains, and ensure prompt action wherever water accumulation occurs. “There’s no room for negligence when it comes to the safety and convenience of Delhiites,” she warned.
